Battery storage for Glasgow homes
Store surplus solar for the evening and charge from off-peak electricity overnight. Hanchu LiFePO4 batteries installed through our MCS-certified partner.
Quick answer
Should a Glasgow home add battery storage?
A home battery stores surplus solar electricity for use in the evening and can also charge from the grid overnight on a time-of-use tariff. We specify the Hanchu LiFePO4 battery, with 95% usable capacity and a 10-year warranty. A survey checks whether a battery suits your system, tariff and household usage.
Last updated:
A home battery stores surplus solar energy for the evening instead of sending it back to the grid at a low export rate. In Glasgow, where winter daylight is short, a battery can also charge overnight at off-peak rates and discharge when electricity is more expensive.
What battery do you install?
The Hanchu LiFePO4 — a lithium iron phosphate battery with 95% depth of discharge, around 8,000 cycles, approximately 22-year design life and a 10-year warranty.

How does a home battery work?
It stores surplus solar for evening use and, on a time-of-use tariff, can charge overnight at off-peak rates to use during peak hours.
How a battery fits around your solar panels and tariff.
Solar self-consumption
Instead of exporting surplus solar at the export rate, you store it and use it in the evening when you would otherwise import from the grid at the peak rate. Flat-rate export tariffs currently range from roughly 1p to 25p/kWh — check current rates with your supplier.
Time-of-use charging
On a time-of-use tariff, the battery can charge overnight at the off-peak rate and discharge during peak hours. In Scotland, where solar surplus is seasonal, this lets the battery stay useful through the darker winter months.
Up to two cycles per day
A typical pattern is one cycle from solar surplus and one from off-peak grid charging. Your installer sets the battery up to suit your tariff and usage.

Common questions
Questions about home battery storage in Glasgow
Where does a home battery go in a Glasgow house or flat?
Most batteries are wall-mounted in a garage, utility room, loft or under-stair cupboard, close to the consumer unit. In tenement flats with no garage, the survey checks whether there is a safe, ventilated indoor spot with enough wall space before the battery is included in your quote.
Do you install in Glasgow?
Yes. We arrange solar panel, battery and heat pump installations across Glasgow and every G postcode in Greater Glasgow. We install through MCS-certified partners, who survey your home first and then carry out the installation.
Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?
Usually, yes. Most existing solar systems can take a battery, either connected alongside your current inverter or with a replacement hybrid inverter. The survey checks your inverter, fuse board and available space, and your written quote explains which option suits your system.
Is finance available?
Finance available, subject to status. Credit is arranged through FCA-authorised finance partners, and your quote can show payment options alongside the cash price so you can compare them before deciding.
How do I get a quote?
