These are the questions Glasgow homeowners ask most often about solar panels, battery storage and heat pumps. Every answer is written answer-first so you get the key fact immediately, with supporting detail underneath. For the step-by-step process, see how it works; for technical terms, see the glossary.

The standard domestic specification — 12 × AIKO Comet 500W panels (6kW), Hanchu ESS hybrid inverter, Hanchu battery — is £12,500–£13,500 including 0% VAT (until 31 March 2027). Bird proofing is included as standard. Scaffolding on tenements, slate roofs and longer cable runs can move the price up. A no-obligation survey gives your exact figure. Prices checked August 2026.

Yes. A 6kW system in Glasgow generates approximately 3,400 to 3,800 kWh annually, based on MCS MIS 3002 zone data. Glasgow’s long summer days (17+ hours of daylight in June) partly offset shorter winter days. Modern solar panels work on daylight, not direct sunlight, so overcast skies still produce meaningful generation.

Our installation partner covers all Glasgow G postcodes — G1 through G78. This includes Glasgow city centre (G1–G5), West End (G11–G14, G20), South Glasgow (G41–G46, G52–G53), East Glasgow (G31–G34, G40), suburbs (G15, G60–G68, G81), and outer towns (G69, G71–G78 including East Kilbride, Bearsden, Milngavie, Newton Mearns, Cumbernauld).

Sometimes yes. Many Glasgow tenements have south-facing roofscapes that suit solar PV — particularly modernised tenements with single-property roof access. Multi-property tenements typically need collective agreement from all owners under the Tenements (Scotland) Act 2004. Your installer assesses tenement viability during the no-obligation survey, including planning consent for conservation areas.

Conservation areas in Glasgow (West End, Pollokshields, parts of the city centre) typically require planning permission because permitted development rights are removed. Listed buildings need listed building consent too. Allow 8–12 weeks for applications — most succeed. Your installer advises on planning during the no-obligation survey.

No. Glasgow Solar City is a sub-brand of Scottish Energy Efficiency (company number SC854865), based in Dundee. We are an impartial renewable energy consultancy and introducer service. Installations are carried out by our accredited installation partner, Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd (SC484353) — MCS certified (IAA10151), TrustMark registered (3559930), Gas Safe registered (559575).

30-year panel performance warranty (panels still above 90% output at year 30). 10-year battery warranty. 10-year inverter warranty. Plus an insurance-backed guarantee through the Independent Warranty Association (IWA), covering your system if the installing company ceases trading.

Two ways. First, you store surplus solar for evenings instead of exporting at the export rate and buying back at the peak import rate. Second, grid arbitrage — charging overnight at off-peak rates and using that stored energy during the day, which matters in Scotland because solar yield is seasonal. We model a maximum of two battery cycles per day. Export tariff rates range from roughly 1p to 25p on flat-rate tariffs, with time-of-use peaks higher — check current rates with your supplier.

SPEN (Scottish Power Energy Networks) is the Distribution Network Operator for the Glasgow area. Any solar installation must be notified to SPEN under G98 (fast-track, systems up to 3.68kW single-phase) or G99 (full application for larger systems). Your installer handles all SPEN paperwork as part of the installation.

Finance available, subject to status. Credit is arranged through FCA-authorised finance partners, subject to status. Your installer can talk you through the options alongside your quote.

Most Glasgow solar installations complete in a single day. The full process from enquiry to live system typically takes 4–8 weeks, depending on SPEN G98/G99 processing times and whether planning permission is needed (conservation areas add 8–12 weeks). Your installer gives you a timeline during the no-obligation survey.
